What Christ's Church of the Valley Believes

We believe there is one God, the creator and sustainer of the universe, and He eternally exists.

Psalm 90:2; Acts 17:24-28a

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 NIV

“I am the first and the I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6b NIV

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Messiah – our Lord and Savior. He is coequal with God. John 3:16-17; Heb 4:15; I Peter 1:19-21

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ...The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1&14 NIV

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men – the testimony given in its proper time.” I Timothy 2:5-6 NIV

We believe that the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Son. The Holy Spirit reveals God, convicts people of their sin and is the gift of God when one is baptized into Christ.

Genesis 1:2; Matthew 28:19; John 1:32-34; John 3:5-6

“...he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior...” Titus 3:5-6 NIV

We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, without error, given to us so that we may know and understand the truth of God and His love for us. Matthew 7:24; Luke 21:3; Isaiah 55:11; I Peter 1:21-22

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16 NIV

We believe that the Church is a community of men and women, free under Christ, following and proclaiming His truth, and is both the body and bride of Christ. Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 1:22; I Timothy 3:15

“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 3:10-11 NIV

We believe that Christian baptism is the total immersion in water of a believer who has repented of sin and

confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior. Matthew 3:13-15; John 3:5; Acts 2:38-39; Galatians 3:26-27

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Romans 6:3-4 NIV

We believe the Lord’s Supper or communion is an ordinance initiated by Jesus to serve as a reminder of one’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. I Corinthians 11:23-29; Acts 2:42, 20:7

“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying," Take and eat; this is my body.”

Matthew 26:26 NIV
